How can I improve my home's internal Wi-Fi network?
Please note that many factors that influence Wi-Fi performance are beyond u-mee's control. Wireless technology is continuously improving, so the fastest speeds are generally only available on the latest smartphones, tablets and computers.

Likewise, our broadband speeds have increased from 50Mbps to up to 300Mbps for the majority of our customers in less than a year - these now exceed our router's 802.11n theoretical wireless speed.

The u-mee fibre router (specifications) is a high-quality unit at the 'sweet spot' of price versus performance for the majority of customers ... and it's included with our free installation. However, enhancing your home's internal network by adding your own access point or router is easy - if you are confident with the technology and determine that your terminals (e.g. smartphones) can take advantage of such an upgrade, these are readily-available locally as well as online.

Products range in price/performance so only you can decide on the features and extent to which you try to 'future proof' - bear in mind that every unit will inevitably be superseded as new smartphones, etc. are launched.

Our website includes links to useful third-party smartphone apps that you might enjoy if you find your inner-geek trying to work out how to improve wireless performance in your home ... or maybe our support guys recommend a test and ask for your results.

Remember that apart from your smartphone/tablet + router/access point's technical capabilities, wireless performance is influenced by environmental factors (such as interference from nearby Wi-Fi networks and walls), other devices on the same network, etc. You need to use a wired ethernet connection e.g. to a computer, to test your broadband speed properly - please visit speedtest.net
